He has been a presenter of jazz, experimental, international music and more since 1977. He was an improvising saxophonist and composer who toured nationally & internationally for 25 years until 2001. Built on the site of the Meirin elementary school founded by the people of Kyoto in the Meiji era, the Center houses a studio, gallery, auditorium, Japanese-style hall, library, Japanese-style tea room, cafe and shops. The center rents its studio on a three-month basis to support creation of new work. They produce projects in the visual an performing that incorporate the traditional arts into multi-disciplinary contemporary works. In addition to their Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program for emerging artists and arts researchers, since 2010 they produce the Kyoto Experiment, an international festival of contemporary arts. She is here to represent MamaCita, a Philadelphia-based mother's cooperative in the arts. In partnership with 4 other artists- Julie Mann, Karen McLaughlin, Brenda Howell and Kimberly Mehler, she is working on an installation called One Year. One Year will explore urban violence and community responses to it by memorializing each murder victim in Philadelphia over 2012. This work is inspired by Mothers in Charge, a violence prevention organization created by mothers in Philadelphia.
