She is the Founder and Executive Director of 516 ARTS (www.516arts.org), an independent, nonprofit arts and education organization operating a museum-style gallery in downtown Albuquerque. She has directed numerous collaborative arts projects including the current ISEA2012 Albuquerque: Machine Wilderness (www.isea2012.org). She presents contemporary art and interdisciplinary projects in an educational context, with an emphasis on collaboration among artists and organizations. She holds a B.A. in Art History and Studio Arts from Barnard College and an M.A. in Art Education from the University of New Mexico. Her projects are created in conjunction with art collectives, schools, museums, non-profit organizations, and alternative spaces. These gathering spaces take the form of participatory projects such as colorful tents, collaborative creations, art parades, zines, and more using media including fiber, found objects, and costume-making. Sclavi has worked in collaboration with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, Fleisher Arts Memorial, the Painted Bride, and currently, is an artist-in-residence in Asian Arts Initiative's Social Practice Lab in a year-long project about creative community engagement.
