He has been the recipient of several major awards, including the Pew Fellowship in the Arts for Choreography and an Established Choreographers Fellowship from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. De Spain is widely known for his performances, documentation, and teaching of movement and theatre improvisation, and has also written and performed extensively exploring the interface between movement and technology. Early careers included theatre director, ensemble member, producer and presenter. She is now a consultant specializing in strategic planning, building organizational capacity, staff/board retreats and creative conflict engagement. Current clients include the GA Center for NonProfits, Appalshop and Omaha Theatre for Youth. She is also project manager for the Arts & Democracy Project. Lori has worked in the Museum and arts related field for 22 years, including the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Wilmington Art Museum, and the National Museum of American Jewish History. In addition, she was the Executive Director of the Betsy Ross House and served as the President of the Independence Seaport Museum. She holds a BA degree in Art History with a minor in Studio Arts from the University of Florida and a MA in Museum Studies from Syracuse University.
