The Fukoka City Foundation for the Arts, established <strong>in</strong> 1999, is funded by the city government. Its<br />

mission is "to bridge people and the arts." The Foundation does not own its own space and supports<br />

traditional and contemporary arts that take place throughout the city. In addition to community<br />

workshops, Artist <strong>in</strong> Schools program, they host the Asia Film Festival and the Fukoka Arts Festival.<br />

The Foundation is a strong presence <strong>in</strong> the city and serves the diverse needs of the community through<br />

organic cooperation with other city <strong>in</strong>stitutions.<br />

Kyoko Yoshida is the founder and executive director of U.S/Japan Cultural Trade Network, Inc.<br />

(CTN), an <strong>in</strong>ternational <strong>in</strong>itiative of Arts Midwest to provide leadership, vision, <strong>in</strong>formation and<br />

technical support to enhance cultural trade between the two countries. S<strong>in</strong>ce its <strong>in</strong>ception, Yoshida has<br />

successfully lead CTN <strong>in</strong> br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g together public and private resources <strong>in</strong> both countries to create a<br />

dynamic system of support for the exchange of artists, artistic services, and exhibitions. After a<br />

productive five-year operation <strong>in</strong> the Midwest, CTN relocated to San Francisco <strong>in</strong> 2006 and became an<br />

<strong>in</strong>dependent nonprofit organization. Currently based <strong>in</strong> San Francisco, Yoshida also serves as senior<br />

program advisor for San Francisco International Arts Festival<br />
