They create intimate solos for the street or stage, to large community dance works in train stations, short experimental films in national parks, to complex works for site or stage amidst installations of video and sound. Their works have been presented across the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Europe, Russia and South America by venues such as the Walker Art Center, Intermedia Arts and Bryant Lake Bowl, Minneapolis; PS 122, DTW, and Movement Research in NYC; American Dance Festival, NC; Dance Camera West, LA; Philadelphia Dance Projects; Kyoto Art Center; Anti Festival, Finland; Stromereien, Zurich; Lyon Opera Ballet; British Dance Edition; Cinedans, Amsterdam; and Polish Public TV, amongst others. She has choreographed for River North Chicago, Lookingglass Theater, and Redmoon Theater, among others, and in 2010 was named one of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch." Julia has received two Illinois Arts Council Fellowships, a Jacob K. Javits Fellowship, a Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography Fellowship, a Chicago Dancemakers Forum Award, a National Dance Project award, and a National Performance Network Creation Fund award. She earned a BA in history from Northwestern University and an MFA from School of the Art Institute Chicago, and teaches at Columbia College Chicago and University of Chicago. Outside of Lucky Plush Ms. Roche is on the faculty at Loyola University Chicago, Master Electrician at Lifeline Theatre and Manager with The House Theatre of Chicago presents The Magic Parlour. Ms. Roche also tours as Production Stage Manager with 500 Clown and Lakeside Shakespeare Theatre. Ms. Roche works as Lighting designer, Stage Manager and Master Electrician around the city of Chicago with theatre companies such as Victory Gardens, Strawdog Theatre, Theatre Seven, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Griffin Theatre, Adventure Stage Chicago and International Contemporary Ensemble.
