Cynthia is a former dancer with numerous companies <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the David Gordon Pick Up Co., Ronald<br />

Kev<strong>in</strong> Brown/Evidence, and Bebe Miller Co. A woman of Caribbean descent, Cynthia's work is a<br />

melange of dance, theatre and the spoken word, and <strong>in</strong>corporates textures of Caribbean performance<br />

with African and American sensibilities. Ms. Oliver is an award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g choreographer who has<br />

earned a New York Dance and <strong>Performance</strong> Award (a Bessie), a CalArts Alpert Award nom<strong>in</strong>ation by<br />

her peers <strong>in</strong> the dance field, and a University Scholar award <strong>in</strong> 2011 from the University of Ill<strong>in</strong>ois<br />

where she is Professor of Dance.<br />

Michelle Angela Ortiz is a visual artist/ skilled muralist/ community arts educator who uses her art as a<br />

vehicle to represent people and communities whose histories are often lost or co-opted. Through<br />

pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g, pr<strong>in</strong>tmak<strong>in</strong>g, and community arts practices, she creates a safe space for dialogue around some<br />

of the most profound issues communities and <strong>in</strong>dividuals may face. Her work tells stories us<strong>in</strong>g richly<br />

crafted and emotive imagery to claim and transform "blighted" spaces <strong>in</strong>to a visual affirmation that<br />

reveals the strength and spirit of the community. In 2007, she jo<strong>in</strong>ed the Stockton Rush Bartol<br />

Foundation as the program manager where she has developed programs and workshops to support the<br />

professional development of teach<strong>in</strong>g artists.
