He cofounded the Center for the Theater Commons, which is housed at Emerson, and it's predecessor, the American Voices New Play Institute. Prior to joining ArtsEmerson in 2012, David was the Associate Artistic Director at Arena Stage after spending 20 years in the San Francisco Bay Area where he founded and led The Z Space and it's precursor, The Z Collective. While the midwest and dance have shaped her understanding of the world, more and more she is interested in process, community and carving opportunities for artists to create work in a well-resourced way. She can most often be found at the Neighborhood House or working with Artists U and Thirdbird, and has been glad to learn NPN first hand while working on the showcase in Philly. From the classroom to the stage, his influences stem from critical ethnic-studies pedagogy to formal/informal music training. He has performed all over the nation in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Great American Music Hall, and the RCA Dome. As member of various ensembles throughout his career, he considers himself the "utility man" when it comes to performing. James is currently the

As a freelance producer she has worked on projects at the Greene Space, Joyce Soho, and Alvin Ailey Studios. She is currently a master's candidate in performing arts administration at New York University and holds a bachelors degree in dance and art history from Mount Holyoke College. She is a theatre director & educator whose work has been influenced by her training at Jeune Lune, the Theatre du Soleil & Augusto Boal's Center for the Theatre of the Oppressed. Gas & Electric Arts explores a hybrid of techniques on stage & in communities as our means of being active citizens responding to an ever-changing world. Lisa Jo's work bridges the gap between ensemble physical theatre & text-based approaches, with the goal of creating compelling theatrical experiences which ignite the imagination and intellect. She's been training teachers, social-service professionals & under-served urban teens in Theatre of the Oppressed for 20 years, & also leads the TO-based program called Power gRRRls.
