Henriëtte Brouwers is a performer, teacher and director. She studied dance and theater <strong>in</strong> the<br />

Netherlands, corporeal mime and 'theater of the oppressed' <strong>in</strong> Paris. Henriette is the associate director<br />

of Los Angeles Poverty Department s<strong>in</strong>ce 2000 and collaborator/ producer of RFK<strong>in</strong>EKY, a<br />

community-based re-enactment of Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 trip to <strong>in</strong>vestigate poverty <strong>in</strong> Appalachia.<br />

Brouwers developed the 'Weep<strong>in</strong>g Women" performance series based on Mexican legends. She<br />

directed Pomona College students <strong>in</strong> 'Weep<strong>in</strong>g Women and War,' 'La Llorona, Weep<strong>in</strong>g Women on<br />

Skid Row' with LAPD, performed on Skid Row and at a national conference on women and poverty at<br />

Scripps College, and 'La Llorona, Weep<strong>in</strong>g Women of Echo Park' with a group of Lat<strong>in</strong>o Women <strong>in</strong><br />

Echo Park.<br />
