Test condition: Bioassays were conducted with adult and larval brine shrimp,
respectively.
13–25 adult shrimp (wild captures acclimated at least 10
days) were exposed in 10 l seawater to benzene at different
temperatures and salinities (see below). Oxygen content was
at least >/= 5.8 ppm at the end of the experiment.
Approx. 30 larval shrimp (capture bred) were exposed in 350
ml glass bowls.
Benzene concentrations were measured by UV–spectrophotometry
(at 250 nm).
Effects of benzene on animals were recorded by microscopical
observation.
Test substance: Purity: ACS standard, redistilled.
