Cultural Impact on Management Styles: A cross-cultural study between <strong>Puerto</strong> Rico and Dominican Republic 20a paternalistic management style. Hypothesis testing using the two–tailed T-test <strong>for</strong> equality ofmeans indicated that there is a significant difference between <strong>Puerto</strong> Rico and DominicanRepublic managers. After the analysis, hypothesis three was accepted.Hypothesis four (H4) stated that <strong>Puerto</strong> Rico because have a strong uncertainty avoidance willhave a <strong>de</strong>mocratic management style. Dominican Republic have low uncertainty avoidance willhave a paternalistic management style. Hypothesis testing using the two–tailed T-test <strong>for</strong>equality of means indicated that there is a significant difference between <strong>Puerto</strong> Rico andDominican Republic managers. Accordingly, hypothesis four was rejected.Discussion of the resultsThe purpose of this study and primary objective was to investigate the relationship ofthe cultural dimensions of Gert Hofste<strong>de</strong> with the managerial styles in <strong>Puerto</strong> Rico andDominican Republic. Lea<strong>de</strong>rship styles of Initiating Structure and Consi<strong>de</strong>ration were used toestimate, evaluate and explain the influence of national culture on lea<strong>de</strong>rship behavior ofbusiness managers from both countries. Cultural influences lea<strong>de</strong>rship behavior andlea<strong>de</strong>rship styles vary from country to country (Trompennars, 1993).As globalization of business continues to gain momentum, there are increased<strong>de</strong>mands <strong>for</strong> professional, administrative, and managerial manpower around the world. It isnecessary <strong>for</strong> successful international managers to recognize the extent to which they andtheir employees are constrained by culture so they can go beyond their own limitations causedby culture-bound narrow perspectives (Parker, 1994).To date has been no cross-cultural studies comparing management styles in <strong>Puerto</strong> Rico andDominican Republic. The literature about this countries management styles is very limited.
