A cette Quadriennale de <strong>Prague</strong> 1987 le Japon participé a toutes les<br />

sections compétitives: nationale, thématique et ďarchitecture. Les 26<br />

artistes ont été sélectionnés de touš les membres de JASTA, y compris<br />

ceux qui travaillent a la télévision. Ces artistes dans leurs oeuvres<br />

s'orientent surtout a la solution de 1'espace théátral.<br />

Tchékhov qďon a choisi pour la section thématique de Quadriennale de<br />

<strong>Prague</strong> 1987 et trěs bien connu au Japon. Dans Phistoire de théátre<br />

japonais moderně les réalisations des piěces de A. P. Tchékhov ont joué<br />

un role progressif. Dans la premiére partie de cette section thématique<br />

nous présentons Phistoire des réalisations de Tchékhov, dans la deuxiěme<br />

partie les réalisations de ses oeuvres dans le théátre contemporain; dans<br />

chaque partie se présentent dix artistes.<br />

Dans la section ďarchitecture nous présentons cinq projets, recompensés<br />

en 1986 dans la competition ďarchitecture a la construction du nouveau<br />

Théátre national a Tokyo.<br />

Nous expérons que par cette exposition nous offrirons aux visiteurs des<br />

iníormations essentielles sur Part théátral contemporain au Japon.<br />

The Japan Stage and TV Designers Association, JASTA, was founded in<br />

1958 for the purpose of promoting artistic improvement, encouraging<br />

members' mutual aid, and establishing members' sociál status. As the<br />

nation wide organization for stage and TV artists in Japan, we now have<br />

380 members. Throughout the year, we perform a variety of activities<br />

with great emphasis upon exhibitions. Since the last <strong>Prague</strong> <strong>Quadrennial</strong><br />

1983, we have held the following: the 1984 Tokyo International Stage<br />

Arts Exhibition, the 1985 Contemporary British Stage Arts Exhibition, the<br />

1985 l' st overseas JASTA Exhibition in Peking and Shanghai, the 1985<br />

10 th JASTA Biennale, and the 1986 ll th JASTA Biennale. The expérience<br />

we had in China was significant, and we hope to continue to associate<br />

with foreign artists through exhibitions for mutual understanding.<br />

At this <strong>Prague</strong> <strong>Quadrennial</strong> 1987, Japan will participate in the three<br />

sections: the National, Theme and Architecture section. The 26 participants<br />

for the National section were chosen from the entire membership<br />

of JASTA including TV artists. These artists energetically express contemporary<br />

Japanese theatre space.<br />

Chekhov, who was chosen for the <strong>Prague</strong> <strong>Quadrennial</strong> 1987 theme, is<br />

familiar in Japan. In the history of performing foreign plays in the<br />

Japanese language in Japan, the modern Japanese theatre has developed<br />
