ones from Switzerland – are both in heavy demand and I have not even an idea as to where I packed
them ... There are other lost articles: (can’t you hear me say ‘full colon’?) one is a part of a silver set
that I think at the last moment I put into storage ...
P.S. The money to the amount of $ 5,000 or so, that I am borrowing should be in the bank within 6
days. In any case, find out from your friend if it has been deposited before you put in this check.
Unless there is some new complication that I don’t know anything about, there is no reason why you
should not cash it on the date mentioned ...“

Lebensschicksal Ihres Buches ganz gleichgültig; solche Introduktionen haben gar keine Wirkung und

„Natürlich schreibe ich Dir den gewünschten Brief an Kroener, aber nur wenn dringend nöthig oder
wenn Du mir schreibst: da und da zu ist mir eine Empfehlung an ihn von vornherein nöthig. Vielleicht
ambirst Du auf eine Position bei der ‘Gartenlaube’, – in diesem Falle würde ich natürlich gleich
schreiben. Aber ich weiß nicht, ob sich solcher direkter Uebertritt empfiehlt.“
