Scientific education is of high importance for Uzbek youth
Women are increasingly participating in society and scientific activities
Uzbekistan: betting
everything on the youth
People are the most productive in their youth, but at the same time,
they require support. Therefore, Uzbekistan encourages its young
generation to become the global leaders they are meant to be.
“Peace, economic dynamism, social
justice, tolerance – all this and more,
today and tomorrow, depends on tapping
into the power of youth”, says UN
Secretary-General António Guterres,
a statement with which Uzbekistan
clearly agrees judging from the country’s
recent developments regarding
youth, scientific education and entrepreneurship.
Uzbekistan is standing at
the threshold of a vital demographic
milestone where young people under
the age of 30 constitute two thirds
of the country’s population. Over the
next two decades, today‘s children
and young people will become the
largest labor force in the history of Uzbekistan.
With the right investments
in the development of young people
today, they can become the generation
that will lead Uzbekistan to a new
level of socio-economic growth.
Universities are endowed with independence
in integrating education
and science in the world. Therefore,
the functions of state control in the
field of education and science will be
reduced year by year while creating
ample opportunities for freedom of
scientific activity. As a result of the ongoing
work to ensure the integration
of education and science, overcoming
the existing restrictions on the involvement
of talented young people in
scientific activities, the organization
of research on the basis of PhD and
strengthening scientific capacity and
selection of highly qualified persons
are being created to further enhance
the prestige of scientific institutions
in the country. Thus, a number of initiatives
that aim to form co-operations
between universities and research
institutes, are supported.
Some of the most important measures
taken in the country are also
the establishment of both financial
incentives and advocacy to raise
the social status of scientific and
scientific-pedagogical personnel. The
earliest achievements of the reform
can already be seen: the potential of
personnel with academic degrees has
increased five times in the country
over the past five years. In particular,
the share of Uzbek youth who are
currently engaged in research at
prestigious international universities
is growing. As a result of increasing
the participation of women in society
and scientific activities, creating good
conditions for their effective participation,
the share of women in the scientifically
proven structure is about 40%.
There are various initiatives in the
field of science of Uzbekistan to support
young people also concerning
bilateral relations of the Academy of
Sciences of Uzbekistan with international
research centers such as Uzbek-
Chinese research laboratories which
have been established at a number of
institutes. Relations with international
organizations such as UNESCO, IAEA,
MAAN and TWAS have also been
strengthened. Furthermore, not only
the scientific and educational sectors
have increased, but also the start up
ecosystem, which is an important link
to the integration of science.
The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat
Mirziyoyev, recently put forward
a number of initiatives that support
youth entrepreneurship and introduce
new employment mechanisms,
which will undoubtedly be justified in
the coming future.
