Wien dirigieren, in diesem einzigartigen
Zentrum der Kultur, das durch die
Wiener Staatsoper, den Musikverein
und das Konzerthaus eine weltweite
Bedeutung in der internationalen
Musikszene innehat.“
Angesichts ihres bisherigen Karriereverlaufs
dürfte das Erreichen dieses
Ziels wohl nicht allzu lange auf sich
warten lassen!
The Italian conductor Gianna Fratta
has taken the international opera and
concert scene by storm and established
herself in the world of conducting,
which is often regarded as a male
domain. Gianna Fratta set her heart
on becoming a conductor at the age
of nine, after hearing an orchestra live
for the first time. From that moment
on, she planned all her studies in order
to achieve this goal. She completed
her academic education graduating
in piano, composition with full marks
and in conducting with full marks cum
laude at the “N. Piccinni” Conservatory
of music in Bari. Afterwards, she was
awarded the diploma of honour at the
Accademia Chigiana in Siena during
the course led by the Russian conductor
Yuri Ahronovitch. On this occasion,
he praised Gianna’s ability: “I’ve never
known a musician so gifted with heart
and arm”.
In 2006, Gianna Fratta participated
in the “Donatella Flick Conducting
Competition” in London where she was
semi-finalist. In 2007, she was finalist
in the 50th conducting competition
of Besançon (France), the only Italian
conductor among 200 conductors
from all over the world. In 2003, she
won the prize “Bacchette in rosa”
(“Pink batons”) at the end of a course
organized by Regione Toscana and
Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, where she
was first among fifty female European
conductors.
In 2007, she was awarded the first prize
at the “High school of conducting”.
The jury was composed of renowned
conductors such as Alain Lombard,
Bruno Bartoletti, Donato Renzetti,
Jorma Panula and Lu-Jia. In addition
to her performance activity, Gianna
is a successful musical organizer in
Italy and abroad. On 7th March 2009,
the President of the Italian Republic
Giorgio Napolitano appointed her as
„Knight of the Italian Republic“ for her
international career that comprises
conducting tasks in Italy, Germany,
France, United Kingdom, Spain, China,
Korea, Israel, USA, Argentina, Brazil and
Bulgaria. Recently, in 2021, Maestra
Fratta has been appointed Artistic
Director of the renowned Orchestra
Sinfonica Siciliana.
Asked about her further aims, the
impressive artist states: „I want to
conduct operas and concerts in Vienna
as it is a unique centre of culture that
– thanks to the Vienna State Opera,
the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus
– holds a worldwide significance in
the international music scene.“ In view
of her career development so far, the
achievement of this aim will most likely
not take too much time!
