DRINK SERVERS/BAR ATTENDANTS<br />

3 – DISHWASHING (photograph 10)<br />

Worker must lift 6-7kg drink trays and place into<br />

dishwasher at shin height (photograph 10), requiring<br />

forward stooping. Preferably this would be conducted<br />

with kneeling/squatting postures.<br />

4 – OTHER TASKS<br />

• Depending on the venue, items may be stored at different levels of the establishment, which may require<br />

the workers to carry items up flights of stairs.<br />

• Workers may remove empty kegs, requiring 8kg of lift, throughout their shift. Bar staff may access drinks<br />

between shin to over head height or waist to over head height depending on the venue.<br />

• Drink servers may also clear tables, requiring carrying of plates and cups up to 20 metres, and then wiping<br />

down tables. Bar staff generally wipe down bars during the day and night, at shoulder height which may<br />

require slight overreaching to access the bar over the bench, depending on the design of the bar.<br />

• Drinks staff may access stock first thing in the day, requiring possible lift of cartons of beer, boxes of wine,<br />

requiring maximum lift of 20kg.<br />

• Stock may be brought to areas by stores and purchasing, boots yardsmen and bar workers, then stock is placed<br />

into areas by bar staff. This requires stocking between shin to over head height depending on the design of the<br />

bar. This may be conducted with the use of a trolley or sack truck to transport the items, which is preferable to<br />

reduce lifting and carrying requirements.<br />

5 – BAR MANAGER<br />

Bar managers complete all drink service tasks as above as well as the following:<br />

• depending on the venue they may complete boots yardsmen roles such as clearing beer lines<br />

• gaming staff roles<br />

• stock control and ordering daily, lifting kegs weighing approximately 80-100kg from ground to knee height<br />

for short distances onto a sack truck to transport to bar areas. A keg caddy could be used to eliminate lifting.<br />

• general maintenance tasks eg, climbing ladders to change signs, changing light globes etc.<br />
