or editor. We shall consider this question later, but it is likely that a
satisfactory solution must be left to a later occasion, and probably to
others.
Zechariah 5.5-11
The vision falls naturally into the following sections:
5-6 Introduction—
Lift up eyes
this is the ephah that goes forth (emphasis goes forth)
this 'their eye' in all the earth/land
7-8 Lid lifted
woman in ephah;
wickedness
woman pushed in
lid pushed on
9 Eyes lifted
two women going forth Spirit/wind in wings
lifted ephah
10-11 Question and answer.
Note that KiC' is used in three different ways: of the angel (v. 5a), the
KfoJ is also used in three different ways: of eyes (vv. 5, 9), of the lid
of the ephah (v. 7) and of the ephah itself (v. 9).
We are bound, then, to take notice of K:T and RtoJ. Other duplicate
words and phrases are as follows.
'3 "Qin "jK^nn, vv. 5, 10. Verses 10-11 form a new section in
which the prophet again engages in dialogue with the angel. Thus
vv. 5-6 and 10-11 are comparable. It is not the case that no interpretation
is given in vv. 7-9, but no questions are asked.
mm n>ya Mta, vv. 5-9. The forms are different here, but we have
already noted that v. 9 is the beginning of a subsection and thus
comparable to 5b. Kto3 alone also occurs in vv. 7 and 9b. The first
