of 7.8-14 very clear: notf 1 ? man pK.. .natf] p»m, preparing the
way for the picture of blessing that replaces it in the verses
immediately following.

"in, 8.3.##14,17 only, is used of Jerusalem to emphasize the results
of Yahweh's dwelling in her midst. It is not relevant for our purposes
since the two instances are so close together.
liu, 8.4, 20, does not seem to be significant.
]pr occurs only in 8.4.##7-8 in masculine and feminine plurals, once
each. We need not plot it.
mm 8.4, 5 (2x), seems to be used to tie together and emphasize the
picture portrayed in 8.4-5. The boys and girls playing in the streets
balance the old men and women sitting in the streets. We need not plot
this word, nor nX 8.5.##4-5.
m, 8.4, 20, 22. The last two occurrences are identical forms,
referring to 'the inhabitants of many cities' and 'many peoples' who
will 'come' to Jerusalem in the days that are to come. We need
not plot it but can consider it along with KU.
DV 8.6, 9 (2x), 10, 11, 15, 23. 8.6, 10 and 23 have the expression
nnnn/onn D'n'3; 8.10 seems to mean 'these' (present) days; r6KnD'rr
does occur in 8.9, 15. In other words there are references to the
present or former days in 8.9-11 and 15, and to those that are to come
in vv. 6 and 23. The form nnn occurs only in vv. 6 and 10. There
does not seem to be any clear indication of structure in this usage. It
does confirm the fact that the section 8.9-17 has a strong emphasis on
the present and even the past, despite its obvious concern with the
future. It does not seem possible that the phrases in question are
pointers to structure.
K'PD] + 'rm, only 8.6 (2x). This verse is isolated from the others by
the introductory formula. The exact significance of the niphal of K^a
is uncertain: does it mean 'to be wonderful' in the sense of 'almost
impossible' or 'to be desired, approved'. The verse may be taken to
imply either:
1. top is found otherwise only in 1.14, 12, 15. There it balances ^p, 1.2 and
15 (3x) which occurs otherwise only in 7.12; 8.14.
