232 Structure and the Book ofZechariah
9 And Yahweh will be King over all the earth
on that day Yahweh will be one and his name one
10 And all the land/earth shall be turned like the Arabah,
from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem
And she will be high and dwell in her place
from Benjamin gate as far as the place of the former gate
as far as the gate of the ens
and tower of Hananel as far as the wine presses of the king
11 And they will dwell in her
and DTI will not be
and Jerusalem will dwell in trust/security
12 And this the PLAGUE. .. all peoples against Jerusalem
flesh rot while standing on his feet
eye rot in socket, tongue rot in mouth
13 and it will be on that day great panic from Yahweh
and they will take hold of, a man the hand of his neighbour
and his hand will be raised upon the hand of his neighbour
features also stand out.
1. There is frequent mention of the word *sn, and it is associated
with the directions east-west (vv. 4, 8) and north-south (v. 4). This
seems to be connected with two main ideas: division (vv. 2, 4), and
comprehensiveness (v. 8).
2. There are concrete local and historical references in two places,
vv. 4-5 and 10.
3. In the centre of these verses there is an emphasis on oneness (day,
vv. 6-7; Yahweh and his name, v. 9b; cf. 'whole earth', v. 9
[cf. v. 10a]). There may be an intentional contrast with the division
expressed in vv. 2, 4.
4. Certain verbs perform important functions:
