among 30–49-year-olds. Almost two-thirds (62 percent)<br />

of people in DC diagnosed with AIDS in 2002<br />

were African-American, and about 21 percent had a<br />

history of injection drug use. The rate of AIDS deaths<br />

decreased from 47 per 100,000 in 1998 to 25 per<br />

100,000 in 2003.<br />
