outside the frame side bars on <strong>Cadillac</strong> V-8 and Fleetwood.<br />

Coil springs are stressed in use only about half as<br />

much as conventional leaf springs, hence service breakage<br />

is rare. However, <strong>Cadillac</strong> makes certain that these<br />

springs will withstand many times the forces ever imposed<br />

upon them. In addition to precise steel specifications,<br />

hardening and tempering, each spring is tested for<br />

tensile strength by being placed in a hydraulic compress.<br />

One of the first impressive features when driving the<br />

new <strong>Cadillac</strong>s or LaSalles is their superior ease of<br />

handling in city traffic or at high speeds on the open<br />

There is no front axle to transmit road shock to the<br />

steering mechanism. Accurate steering geometry at all<br />
