improvement is the use of wax liners between the<br />

spring leaves. These liners do not require lubricant,<br />

yet prevent squeaks. With liners it has been found that<br />

spring covers are detrimental because they act as dirt<br />

collectors, consequently no covers are used.<br />

Two-piece rubber bushings are used in the front of<br />

the rear spring and in the upper shackle bearing. The<br />

lower shackle bearing is threaded. The shackles are of<br />

the sturdy double bar design. This method of mounting<br />

the springs at each end gives increased riding comfort,<br />

quiet operation and eliminates lubrication problems.<br />

That easy and quick turning ability in confined areas<br />

and steering accuracy for safe handling at high speeds<br />

is obtainable in as large and heavy a car as the Sixteen<br />
