This <strong>process</strong> category contains the following PAs:<br />

• Organizational Process Focus (OPF);<br />

• Organizational Process Definition (OPD);<br />

• Organizational Training (OT);<br />

• Organizational Process Performance (OPP);<br />

• Organizational Innovation <strong>and</strong> Deployment (OID).<br />

These PAs contain activities associated with <strong>process</strong> definition, deployment,<br />

planning, appraisal, resourcing, training, measuring, monitoring, verifying,<br />

improving, <strong>and</strong> innovating.<br />

Organizational Process Focus<br />

The purpose of organizational <strong>process</strong> focus is to plan <strong>and</strong> implement organizational<br />

<strong>process</strong> <strong>improvement</strong> based on a thorough underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the<br />

current strengths <strong>and</strong> weaknesses of the organization’s <strong>process</strong>es <strong>and</strong> <strong>process</strong><br />

assets.<br />

Why is this important<br />

The OPF PA addresses three of the most important aspects of <strong>process</strong> <strong>improvement</strong>:<br />

(1) establishing responsibility for <strong>process</strong> <strong>improvement</strong>, (2) underst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />

which areas need <strong>improvement</strong>, <strong>and</strong> (3) developing <strong>and</strong> executing<br />

the <strong>improvement</strong> plan.<br />

It is here where existing <strong>process</strong>es are evaluated (typically by <strong>using</strong> a<br />

framework such as the <strong>CMMI</strong> ® or <strong>ISO</strong> 9000) <strong>and</strong> the <strong>process</strong> needs (derived
