Ensure that Contractor employees receive required EHS regulatory training<br />

Fulfill the specific responsibilities for project EHS personnel that are identified within each<br />

EHS procedure<br />

Function as a technical resource for all environmental compliance, safety, loss control, and<br />

industrial hygiene issues<br />

2.5 Site Health And Safety Specialist<br />

The SHSS will be present onsite as required during the conduct of field operations and is responsible for<br />

all health and safety activities and the delegation of duties to the health and safety staff in the field. The<br />

SHSS is responsible for implementation of the SHSP, overseeing that appropriate personal protective<br />

equipment (PPE) is used relative to the hazard which may be encountered, verifying that communication<br />

systems are in place, monitoring conformance with safety and emergency response procedures, giving<br />

safety briefings, seeing that safety equipment is maintained, and conducting safety drills and exercises.<br />

The SHSS or designee is responsible for the setup and execution of decontamination procedures. The<br />

SHSS has stop work authorization, which will be executed upon determination of an imminent safety<br />

hazard or potentially dangerous situation. Work cannot restart until clearance has been authorized by the<br />

SHSS. The SHSS is responsible for maintaining the site health and safety log books.<br />

The SHSS possesses the knowledge and experience necessary to ensure that all elements of the approved<br />

SHSP are implemented and enforced onsite and has the responsibility to:<br />

Ensure that employees understand the requirements of Contractor EHS programs and<br />

procedures through training and communication.<br />

Develop or assist with the development of EHS plans in conjunction with project personnel.<br />

Assist management with EHS plan implementation.<br />

Perform specific tasks in accordance with EHS plans.<br />

Fulfill the specific responsibilities for project EHS personnel that are identified within each<br />

EHS procedure.<br />

Additional responsibilities, include but are not limited to:<br />

Investigation of all accidents, injuries, illnesses, near-misses and other incidents.<br />

Assuring that employees are trained on the hazards of hazardous substances used on any<br />

project. Maintain Material Safety Data Sheet file to provide easy access to all employees.<br />

Inspects to assure all containers are labeled.<br />

Assuring that the SHSP is read, understood, and signed by all field personnel including<br />

subcontractors.<br />

Assuring that tailgate safety meetings are conducted on days that work is performed. Assures<br />

that documentation of all meetings and any other additional training is documented.<br />
