There is very little data concerning the status of the organisations
mentioned below. The Cairo and Washington
agreements recognised several organisations under the
Palestinian Directorate of Police Force. Some have little or
no military significance and it is difficult to estimate the
size of the total forces that do. Following internal fighting
in June 2007, the Gaza Strip is under the de facto control
of Hamas, while the West Bank is controlled by the emergency
Palestinian Authority administration.

The Al-Aqsa Brigades profess loyalty to the Fatah group
which dominates the Palestinian Authority. It is believed
that this group has access to equipments including mines
and IEDs as well as SALW. The strength of this group is
not known.
Hamas maintain a security apparatus in the Gaza Strip
that, though degraded in the aftermath of Operation Cast
Lead (the military operation by Israeli forces in late 2008
and early 2009) still ensures that Hamas remain in control
in the Gaza Strip. Hamas groupings include internal
security groupings such as the Executive Force (Est
strength: 10–12,000; Major equipments include: artillery
rockets, mortars, SALW) and the al-Qassam Brigades (Est
strength: 10,000; Major equipments include: mines and
IEDs, artillery rockets, mortars, SALW)
