Smooth rendered walls. Timber casement windows. Timber tongue and groove door with flanking windows to ground floor of bow. uPVC door to the west elevation. Hipped pantile roof with rendered chimney stacks and later dormer windows. Foundation stone to northeast corner. Modern extensions to the east obscuring the original east elevation of the main building. The structure is located within a walled property enclosing the structure and its attendant grounds History The structure is first shown on the 1937 Ordnance Survey revision map. House was constructed in the early 1930’s by the father of the present owner-occupier, based on an Distance American design (Pers.Comm.). c.30m Type & Quality of Impact No impact Nature of Impact None. Red brick walls to front, smooth rendered to sides and rear. Square-headed window openings with stone sills and segmental-headed doorway with steps, all now boarded up. Hipped slate roofs with rendered chimney stacks. Singlestorey extension to rear. Later brick boundary wall with decorative gates. Arup Consulting Engineers Currently unoccupied and in a poor state of repair, having been badly damaged by vandalism and fire. Much of the roof on the rear of the property is gone and there has been some collapse in the later extension to the east. Site The structure is located in a walled property, off the southside of the current N7, adjacent a modern farmyard containing a second protected structure (ID No.3 below). History First shown on 1874 edition of Ordnance Survey Map. The house and associated farm yard (see below ID 3) and land has been in the same family for at least three generations. The front garden originally extended north to the old Dublin-Naas road and contained tennis courts and additional woodland to either side. (Previous landowner, Pers.Comm.) Distance Immediately to the south of the road at the eastern extent of the proposed scheme. The proposed upgrade works will remove the front boundary wall and a portion of the garden. Type & Quality of Impact Indirect Impact (Moderate) Nature of Impact Degradation of setting by the removal of the boundary walls and portion of garden and altering the traditional access to the property. Although the existing boundary walls and gate are not contemporary with the house, their shape reflects the later turn of the century double bow front extension. The structure is already derelict and an attraction for anti-social behaviour. December 2007 Page 178
