junctions and establish if more detailed modelling of certain areas will be required. The ORR<br />

model was also used as a basis to determine if additional zone disaggregation or finer network<br />

modelling was required.<br />

Up-to-date signal timing information for junctions in the study area was obtained from<br />

DTO/SDCC and other agencies. These were used to update the model.<br />

Review of Existing Traffic Patterns<br />

Traffic survey information was used to define the existing traffic patterns in relevant sections<br />

of the wider and local network. Information from the DTO model, site visit observations and<br />

traffic counts was used to determine the existing junction operation.<br />

Traffic survey data was required for model recalibration and validation. The following<br />

strategy was followed:<br />

• Two sets of cordon counts (internal and external) to be used for model recalibration.<br />

• Screenline counts for link flow validation. The screenlines run from north to south<br />

(M50) and east to west (N7).<br />

• Journey time surveys along the N7 and other key competing routes.<br />

The above strategy included the following traffic count locations:<br />

2. MCC at Walkingstown <strong>Cross</strong>;<br />

4. ATC on Wainsfort Road, immediately north of the R112 junction;<br />

5. MCC at R81 Templelogue Road/ R112 Templeville Road Junction;<br />

6. ATC on Old Bridge Road, River Dodder crosssing;<br />

7. ATC on road linking the N81 and Wellington Lane with the R114, River Dodder<br />

crosssing;<br />

8. ATC on M50 south of the N81 interchange, River Dodder crossing;<br />

9. ATC on R113 Old Bawn Road at the River Dodder crossing;<br />

10. ATC on N81 west of N82 and Saggart Road;<br />

11. ATC on Mill Road north of Slade Road junction at Saggart;<br />

12. ATC on N7 east of R120 junction at Citywest Golf Course;<br />

13. ATC on R120 Peamount Road south of R134 junction at Milltown;<br />

14. ATC on R403 Celbridge Road at Co. Kildare border;<br />

15. ATC on M4 west of R403 Celbridge Road junction at River Liffey <strong>Cross</strong>ing;<br />

16. ATC on Leixlip Road west of M4 junction;<br />
