• Replacement of any trees removed during construction with similar native species and the<br />

replacement of the removed mature trees in the north-east corner of <strong>Newlands</strong> Golf<br />

Course with large semi-mature trees.<br />

• Reinstatement and repair of any damaged footpath / road surfaces, boundaries etc.<br />

• Through the design of the acoustic barrier, located along a portion of the road corridor, to<br />

incorporate a high quality treatment on its elevation to reduce its visual impact.<br />

15.2.3 Noise and Vibration<br />

15.2.3.1 Construction Phase – Noise<br />

The contractor will be required to develop and agree the following documents relating to the<br />

control of noise and vibration prior to the commencement of construction activities:<br />

• The ‘Noise and Vibration Management Plan’ (forming part of the General Environment<br />

Plan and dealing specifically with noise and vibration monitoring), and;<br />

• The ‘Plan for Control of Noise and Vibration’ which will be part of the Method Statement<br />

for each area of the Works.<br />

The former will deal with procedures for construction noise monitoring and reporting,<br />

whereas the latter will contain a detailed appraisal of construction noise generation and<br />

control. The contractor will be obliged to present noise predictions for all relevant activities<br />

for comparison with the construction noise limits outlined in Chapter 8.<br />

Where it is anticipated that construction noise levels may exceed the limits, or activities may<br />

occur outside the periods for which the NRA have recommended any such limits, the<br />

contractor will be obliged to present clear justification and details of mitigation measures<br />

proposed. Where night-time works are required, the Contractor will be obliged to seek<br />

approval from South Dublin County Council and the NRA and also to notify local residents<br />

likely to be affected of the nature, duration and extent of the works.<br />

Other specific steps that must be followed by the contractor are laid out below.<br />

• The Contractor will be required to provide suitably qualified personnel to ensure<br />

compliance with the requirements and procedures stated in the Contract.<br />

• At all Sites and Working Areas and at all times the Contractor will be required to employ<br />

Best Practicable Means as set out BS5228 Part 1, to minimise noise and vibration from all<br />

construction activities.<br />

• The Contractor will also be required to design and implement such suppression measures<br />

deemed necessary to comply with:<br />

• Best Practicable Means;<br />

• The contractual minimum requirements for noise and vibration as defined;<br />

• Noise and vibration control measures agreed as part of the <strong>EIS</strong> or Statutory Procedures.<br />

The generic measures that the Contractor will consider in pursuance of Best Practicable<br />

Means are presented in the following order of priority:<br />
