South Dublin County Council N7 Newlands Cross Upgrade Environmental Impact Statement Table 12.3 ID No 3 Townland Newlands Present Use Animal House/Farm Outbuilding Inspection Date 03/10/2007 Original Use Animal House/Farm Outbuilding Status/Protection RPS 172 NIAH 11209072; Regional Rating Type Farm Outbuilding Photographic Plates 3 & 29 Significance/Interest Architectural, Details Technical Description Composition Detached rectangular-plan two-storey with attic animal shed, c.1880, now also in use as a store and used until recently as stables (Previous landowner, Pers.Comm.). Yellow brick walls with brick corbels and cast-iron gutters. Some rubble repairs, with masonry evident in the lower courses of the south façade and west gable. Timber stable door to south, multiple openings to north with timber hatches. Ventilation slits in gables. Pitched slate roof. A doorway in the west gable has been bricked up. Arup Consulting Engineers The structure appears to be in good condition and was last in use as stables. Site The site is currently located within an active farm yard, alongside modern farm outbuildings. History First shown on 1912 Ordnance Survey map. The outbuilding and associated farm house (see above ID 2) and land has been in the same family for at least three generations. (Previous landowner, Pers.Comm.) Distance Immediately to the south of the road at the eastern extent of the proposed scheme. Type & Quality Indirect Impact (Significant) of Impact Nature of Impact The proposed upgraded road will run immediately alongside the protected structure, causing a visual impact. It is also possible that the construction works and the proximity of traffic flow on the upgraded road may lead to a degradation of the setting of the structure. December 2007 Page 179

Site The terrace is located on a cul de sac extending Arup Consulting Engineers north from the existing N7 road. History Structures are first shown on 1912 Ordnance Survey map, named St Brigid’s Cottages. Distance Immediately to the north of the road at the eastern extent of the proposed scheme, beyond the extent of the proposed upgrade works.
