<strong>Conduits</strong> <strong>through</strong> <strong>Embankment</strong> <strong>Dams</strong>was utilized in the grout mix. The initial mix was 0.8:1 (water/cement ratio byvolume). When it was determined that no problems were encountered with thegrouting operations, the mix was reduced to 0.7:1. A grout fluidfier was used in thegrout mix. Upon completion of the grouting operations, an ASTM C33 sand filterwas installed at the downstream end of the conduit.Lessons learned• CCTV inspection equipment can be used to identify deteriorated areas withininaccessible conduits.• Expedited dam safety actions require good communication between allinterested parties and agencies involved. • A siphon can be constructed quickly and inexpensively in order to providedownstream irrigation requirements.ReferenceBureau of Reclamation, Pasture Canyon Dam—Outlet Works Abandonment, November2004.B-80
