System Management Commands4Frame Size CommandsThis section describes commands used to configure the Ethernet frame size on theswitch.Table 4-10 Frame Size CommandsCommand Function Mode Pagejumbo frame Enables support for jumbo frames GC 4-35jumbo frameThis command enables support for jumbo frames. Use the no form to disable it.Syntax[no] jumbo frameDefault SettingDisabledCommand ModeGlobal ConfigurationCommand Usage• This switch provides more efficient throughput for large sequential datatransfers by supporting jumbo frames up to 10 KB for the Gigabit Ethernetports. Compared to standard Ethernet frames that run only up to 1.5 KB, usingjumbo frames significantly reduces the per-packet overhead required toprocess protocol encapsulation fields.• To use jumbo frames, both the source and destination end nodes (such as acomputer or server) must support this feature. Also, when the connection isoperating at full duplex, all switches in the network between the two end nodesmust be able to accept the extended frame size. And for half-duplexconnections, all devices in the collision domain would need to support jumboframes.• The current setting for jumbo frames can be displayed with the show systemcommand (page 4-33).ExampleConsole(config)#jumbo frameConsole(config)#4-35
