Spanning Tree Commands4• Since end-nodes cannot cause forwarding loops, they can be passed throughthe spanning tree state changes more quickly than allowed by standardconvergence time. Fast forwarding can achieve quicker convergence forend-node workstations and servers, and also overcome other STA relatedtimeout problems. (Remember that fast forwarding should only be enabled forports connected to a LAN segment that is at the end of a bridged LAN or foran end-node device.)• This command is the same as spanning-tree edge-port, and is only includedfor backward compatibility with earlier products. Note that this command maybe removed for future software versions.ExampleConsole(config)#interface ethernet 1/5Console(config-if)#bridge-group 1 portfastConsole(config-if)#Related Commandsspanning-tree edge-port (4-291)spanning-tree bpdu-filterThis command filters all BPDUs received on an edge port. Use the no form todisable this feature.Syntax[no] spanning-tree bpdu-filterDefault SettingDisabledCommand ModeInterface Configuration (Ethernet, Port Channel)Command Usage• This command filters all Bridge Protocol Data Units (BPDUs) received on aninterface to save CPU processing time. This function is designed to work inconjunction with edge ports which should only connect end stations to theswitch, and therefore do not need to process BPDUs. However, note that if atrunking port connected to another switch or bridging device is mistakenlyconfigured as an edge port, and BPDU filtering is enabled on this port, thismight cause a loop in the spanning tree.• Before enabling BPDU Filter, the interface must first be configured as an edgeport with the spanning-tree edge-port or spanning-tree portfast command.ExampleConsole(config)#interface ethernet ethernet 1/5Console(config-if)#spanning-tree edge-portConsole(config-if)#spanning-tree bpdu-filterConsole(config-if)#4-293
