Article 8 LandscapingSection 8.03 Trash Storage Area Screeninginches <strong>of</strong> any existing tree that is preserved will be deemed to bethe equivalent <strong>of</strong> one 2.5-inch caliper tree.6. Each separate landscaped island or area must contain aminimum <strong>of</strong> 165 square feet <strong>of</strong> area, have a minimum dimension<strong>of</strong> 8 feet in any direction and include at least one tree. Withinvehicular use areas with an area <strong>of</strong> less than 4,600 square feet,required trees may be installed along the perimeter <strong>of</strong> thevehicular use area instead <strong>of</strong> within interior islands.7. <strong>The</strong> trees required to be planted within interior landscapingareas must be canopy trees.8. <strong>The</strong> soil volume and composition for trees required withininterior planting islands must have 2-foot minimum depth andtopsoil must be backfilled and mounded.8.02.04 Landscape and Tree ProtectionAll required landscaping area must be protected from vehicular encroachment bycurbs or wheel stops. All trees must be installed and trimmed to ensure that no treelimb or portion there<strong>of</strong> extends below the level <strong>of</strong> 6 feet above the ground.8.02.05 Sight TrianglesLandscaping must comply with the sight triangle standards <strong>of</strong> Section 9.01.Section 8.03 Trash Storage Area Screening8.03.01 ApplicabilityAll <strong>of</strong> the following must provide for the enclosure and screening <strong>of</strong> dumpsters andtrash collection bins:A. multi-unit buildings;B. business, commercial, or manufacturing development; andC. substantial rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> such developments, where the cost <strong>of</strong>such repair or rehabilitation exceeds 150 percent <strong>of</strong> the property'sassessed value.<strong>Covington</strong>, <strong>Kentucky</strong><strong>Zoning</strong> <strong>Ordinance</strong> Draft: 6/22/05Page 8-6
