SignsSection 10.01 Scope ............................................................................................... 10-1Section 10.02 General Rules, Regulations and Limitations ................................. 10-1Section 10.03 Special Signs....................................................................................10-4Section 10.04 Sign Permit Required for Erection <strong>of</strong> Signs...................................10-5Section 10.05 Application for a Sign Permit .........................................................10-6Section 10.06 Sign Permit Fees .............................................................................10-6Section 10.07 Classification <strong>of</strong> Signs .....................................................................10-6Section 10.08 Permitted Use and Location <strong>of</strong> Signs ........................................... 10-14Section 10.01Scope<strong>The</strong> regulations set forth herein apply and govern signs in all zones except as otherwisespecifically provided within this chapter.Section 10.02LimitationsGeneral Rules, Regulations and10.02.01 All business and identification signs are considered accessory uses andall advertising signs are considered nonaccessory uses.10.02.02 No sign may be erected, maintained, or continued unless it is in fullcompliance with the regulations for the zone in which it is located; all applicableprovisions and regulations <strong>of</strong> this chapter; or any other applicable laws, codes, orordinances <strong>of</strong> legislative body. <strong>The</strong> [Insert Official] has the duty and authority toremove or cause to have removed any sign not in full compliance with all applicableprovisions and regulations <strong>of</strong> this chapter or any other applicable laws, codes, orordinances <strong>of</strong> the legislative body when the owner or agent has failed to complywithin the time specified by the [Insert Official] to make the sign comply. <strong>The</strong>owner or agent must bear full costs <strong>of</strong> such removal and must be billed accordingly.10.02.03 No signs may be erected, maintained, replaced, relocated, repaired, orrestored within a distance <strong>of</strong> 660 feet <strong>of</strong> the right-<strong>of</strong>-way <strong>of</strong> any interstate highway,limited access highway, or turnpike, except as provided for in KRS 177.830 through177.890 and approved <strong>of</strong> by the <strong>Kentucky</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Transportation, Bureau <strong>of</strong>Highways, District Office Number 6, as amended.10.02.04 No sign constituting a nuisance because <strong>of</strong> light, glare, focus, noise,animation, flashing, or intensity <strong>of</strong> illumination as to unduly disturb the use <strong>of</strong>surrounding properties, as determined by the [Insert Official], or causing a traffichazard, may be erected, maintained, or continued in any zone.10.02.05 No radio, phonograph, tape recorder, whistle, bell, gong, siren, orother sound or noise-making or transmitting device or instrument may be allowed,permitted, or continued in connection with any sign nor may it be used separatelyfor advertising purposes in any zone.10.02.06 No sign may be erected, maintained, or continued which constricts theflow <strong>of</strong> air through any window or door.10.02.07 No sign may be erected, maintained, or continued which ismisleading, fraudulent, obscene, immoral, indecent, or unsightly in character, asdetermined by the [Insert Official].<strong>Covington</strong>, <strong>Kentucky</strong><strong>Zoning</strong> <strong>Ordinance</strong> Draft: 6/22/05Page 10-1
