Article 16 DefinitionsSection 16.02 Definitions <strong>of</strong> Words and Terms16.02.127 Recreation and Open SpaceRecreational, social, or multi-purpose uses typically associated with parks, openspaces, play fields, golf courses, country clubs or community recreation areas.A. High-IntensityAreas used or designed for participant-oriented, group sports andrecreation activities, including spectator areas associated with suchfacilities. Typical uses include:1. golf courses and country clubs;2. athletic fields, play grounds and children's play apparatus areas,court games with outdoor lighting;3. public and community recreation buildings, including enclosedand semi-enclosed buildings providing public assembly andactivity areas, such as gymnasiums, meeting rooms, gamerooms, arts and crafts, dancing and dining.4. band shells and outdoor theaters; and5. facilities incidental to the operation <strong>of</strong> public recreational uses,such as refreshment stands, small concessionaire shopsdispensing sporting goods.B. Low-IntensityAreas used or designed for individual sports and recreation uses <strong>of</strong> apassive or low-intensity nature. Typical uses include:1. athletic fields, play grounds and children's play apparatus areas,court games without outdoor lighting;2. hiking, bicycle and equestrian trails; greens and commons;3. sitting areas;4. picnic areas;5. botanical gardens;6. arboretums;7. conservatories; and8. natural wildlife or plant habitat areas.16.02.128 Recycling FacilitiesAny building, portion <strong>of</strong> building or area in which recyclable material is collected,stored, or processed for the purpose <strong>of</strong> marketing the material for use as rawmaterial in the manufacturing process <strong>of</strong> new, reused or reconstituted products.A. Recycling Facility, Class IA recycling facility where recyclable materials are temporarily storedor collected, or processed by manual separation. (Note: consumerorientedcollection boxes for newspapers, cans and glass items areconsidered an accessory use and may be allowed in any zone.)B.
