Article 10 SignsSection 10.04 Sign Permit Required for Erection <strong>of</strong> Signscontractor, when placed on the premises where construction work is beingperformed. <strong>The</strong> sign must be removed by the owner or agent within 10 consecutivecalendar days after completion <strong>of</strong> project or that person or firm's part <strong>of</strong> theproject.10.03.05 Memorial signs or tablets, containing the name <strong>of</strong> the building and thedate <strong>of</strong> erection when built into the walls <strong>of</strong> the building and constructed <strong>of</strong> bronze,brass, marble, stone, or other incombustible materials.10.03.06 Traffic signs provided that the signs are designed in accordance withthe "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways," UnitedStates Department <strong>of</strong> Transportation, Federal Highway Administration.10.03.07 Temporary signs, where permitted or required by the [Insert Official]to fulfill requirements <strong>of</strong> this chapter or other resolutions or regulations imposedby a governmental entity.10.03.08 Repainting or cleaning <strong>of</strong> an advertising structure or the changing <strong>of</strong>the advertising copy or message thereon, unless a structural change is made.10.03.09 Signs inside city-owned sports complexes, parks or recreation areaswhich may be incidentally visible from public rights-<strong>of</strong>-way, but which are <strong>of</strong> suchsize or distance from the public rights-<strong>of</strong>-way that they are not primarily intendedto communicate a message to, or attract the attention <strong>of</strong>, people moving on orabout public rights-<strong>of</strong>-way.10.03.10 Signs not exceeding 150 square foot in area; single faced; identifying abuilding, major tenant or corporate headquarters <strong>of</strong> a business; intended as abuilding identification sign. <strong>The</strong> signs are only permitted in the CBD zone or CGzone and only on buildings with a minimum height <strong>of</strong> 5 stories or 50 feet. <strong>The</strong> signsmay be located above the fourth floor or 40 feet above grade, and may not extendbeyond the top or ends <strong>of</strong> the wall surface on which the sign is erected. Only onesign is permitted for each street frontage.Section 10.04Sign Permit Required for Erection <strong>of</strong>SignsNo sign may be erected, except as exempted or specified within this chapter, until allrequired fees have been paid to the proper authorities or their agents and a permit hasbeen issued for such by the Building Department.10.04.01 If any sign is removed and any new sign is erected in its place, apermit must be obtained the same as if a new sign were erected at a new locationsubject to all requirements enumerated herein.10.04.02 If any sign is removed for maintenance and replaced on the samesupports, a new permit will not be deemed necessary if the size or type <strong>of</strong> sign isnot changed.10.04.03 If any sign is removed from one location, and erected at a newlocation, a new permit must be obtained.10.04.04 Alteration or enlargement <strong>of</strong> any sign must require a permit the sameas for a new sign.10.04.05 No permit may be granted until and after an application has been filedwith the Building Inspector showing the plans and specifications, including<strong>Covington</strong>, <strong>Kentucky</strong><strong>Zoning</strong> <strong>Ordinance</strong> Draft: 6/22/05Page 10-5
