As each text was being co<strong>de</strong>d formoves, some difficulties arose in the classification of ‘text parts that se<strong>em</strong>ed not to fallinto any of the moves’ (Fredrickson and Swales, 1994:7). These parts were duly notedand will be discussed in Chapter 5.4.2.2 Questions to be answered by the qualitative analysisAs stated in the introduction (section 1.2), the first hypothesis of this research isthat the texts in the corpus will present certain general invariable features of rhetoricalorganization (all texts will have a closing move, for example) across disciplines. Intrying to elaborate a sch<strong>em</strong>atic <strong>de</strong>scription –– which I will call ‘mo<strong>de</strong>l’ for lack of abetter term –– of the rhetorical organization of the texts in these 60 BRs, informationprogression patterns in the texts are examined having in mind the following questions:a) Which core rhetorical moves appear in all three disciplinary areas sothat different BRs are recognized as ex<strong>em</strong>plars of the same genre?b) Does the rhetorical organization of the genre vary across disciplines interms of type and or<strong>de</strong>r of moves and sub-functions?c) How do reviewers open and close their texts? Do reviewers provi<strong>de</strong> afinal recommendation? How are opening and closing moves realized?
