277Another variation in the or<strong>de</strong>ring of sub-functions occurs in Move 2. On one hand,ch<strong>em</strong>istry tends to have simpler and more linear <strong>de</strong>velopments, with a predictable or<strong>de</strong>rof Sub-function 6 in initial position followed by either Sub-functions 7 or 8, or both. Onthe other hand, economics and linguistics BR <strong>de</strong>velopment patterns contain reference toparts/lines of argumentation in the book alternated with their respective evaluation inrecurring cycles.With regard to it<strong>em</strong> 3 above, the analysis shows that each discipline tends tochoose among the ten sub-functions those that are the most representative ones for eachspecific area of knowledge. In ch<strong>em</strong>istry, reference to field, overall organization, an<strong>de</strong>xtra-text material, se<strong>em</strong> more relevant and not only introductions but the whole text canbe said to be ‘field-oriented’, i.e., the field is specially significant for ch<strong>em</strong>ists. This maypoint to ch<strong>em</strong>ists’ perception that their field is a well-established culture with apublishing tradition that must be acknowledged when a new publication is evaluated.Also, due to idiosyncrasies of the discipline such as frequent use of graphs, formulas,and tables of ch<strong>em</strong>ical el<strong>em</strong>ents, extra-text material is a central concern in the disciplineand citing it becomes obligatory in the genre. In economics BRs, evaluation is thecentral concern, with a greater amount of negative recommendations, where the authoror her methodological, theoretical, or i<strong>de</strong>ological orientation is a central value to beconsi<strong>de</strong>red in recommending the book.In linguistics, the greater ten<strong>de</strong>ncy in producing knowledge in book-form wouldcreate greater competition for rea<strong>de</strong>rs and therefore would offer reviewers a criterion bywhich to evaluate books: if the author has <strong>de</strong>fined and atten<strong>de</strong>d to the needs of her
