With the help of the microconcordprogram, a survey of the active reporting verbs such as ‘write’, ‘<strong>de</strong>fine’, ‘argue’, ‘stress’,<strong>em</strong>phasize’, and ‘seek to <strong>de</strong>fine/explain/address’ was conducted and the resultingconcordance <strong>de</strong>monstrated that, in 69.88% of the occurrences, these verbs in<strong>de</strong>ed signalreference to the author(s). Then a frequency test showed that this type of verbalconstruction appears slightly more often in economics (every 2,132 words) than inlinguistics (2,211 words) and much more frequently than in ch<strong>em</strong>istry (4,915 words).Antithetically, passive constructions play down agency in sentences and thereforecan be expected to be associated with inanimate subjects such as the book or chapters. Aconcordance of passive constructions showed that this is also the case and a frequencytest showed that this type of verb form appears much less often in economics (every 703words) than in linguistics (380 words) and even less frequently than in ch<strong>em</strong>istry (260words). Both concordances (passive and active verbal constructions) suggest thateconomics is more ‘author-oriented’ than the other two areas.Also, inclusion of the writer’s proper name in the opening paragraph of BRshappens more often in economics (55%) than in linguistics (50%) and ch<strong>em</strong>istry (30%).Likewise, as evaluation in Move 4 is examined in <strong>de</strong>tail, it is only in economics that thereviewer makes the final recommendation referring to the author of the book as thegrounds for evaluation:
