It is the mostcomprehensive stat<strong>em</strong>ent to date of the Haskins group's position, and it is clearlyand enthusiastically written. Each chapter scrupulously explores the practical aswell as the theoretical implications of the research that it <strong>de</strong>als with. There is alsoa great <strong>de</strong>al that will be new to many rea<strong>de</strong>rs.[E#7] (Sub-function 9) There are few errors or weaknesses — of fact or ofanalysis. Toulmin’s is basically a tripartite mo<strong>de</strong>l of how argumentsare constructed. Its three basic parts are: claim, data, and warrant. If Toulmin’s mo<strong>de</strong>l isfollowed, in an evaluative move (such as Move 3), one can expect to find these threeparts of the argument.
