1294.4 Concluding r<strong>em</strong>arksAs has been pointed out in Chapter 2, <strong>de</strong>termination of move boundaries is not aclear-cut process. As other approaches to genre analysis (e.g., Bhatia, 1993; Hasan,1985), move analysis is a rather subjective (content- and form-based) analytical processthat <strong>de</strong>pends on the observation of a combination of various linguistic features that pointtowards the rhetorical organization of the text. More than one signaling <strong>de</strong>vice is usuallyfound in any one given passage, as illustrated by the following example:(i) For the stu<strong>de</strong>nt...it is (ii) an i<strong>de</strong>al book...There are at least two different signaling <strong>de</strong>vices in the example above: explicitlex<strong>em</strong>es (i) that signal to the rea<strong>de</strong>r the kind of audience that will most probably profitfrom the book; and attitu<strong>de</strong> markers (ii) that signal positive evaluation. Therefore, it isimportant to have in mind that the analysis will have to account for overlappingcategories, that is, at times move <strong>em</strong>bedding will happen and certain words orexpressions will function as more than one of these types of Metadiscourse. In thatrespect, the context plays an important role in <strong>de</strong>ciding which the main function of agiven it<strong>em</strong> is.In the next chapter I will proceed to the text analysis proper, trying to i<strong>de</strong>ntify thegeneric text structure of BRs within the theoretical-methodological framework <strong>de</strong>finedhere.
