DRAVAN "injuries," AKALAMRTYUN "untimely deaths," DUH-
SVAPNAN "bad dreams," DURNIMITTANI "evil omens," and
CITTAKULANI "confusions." For example, to accomplish the
function of pacifying an epidemic or fever: OM TARE TUTTARE
TURE SARVA-JVARAN SANTIM-KURU SVAHA! "OM TARE
TUTTARE TURE Pacify all fevers SVAHA!"
The above recitations, the author of our text says, are those
given in the majority of the old writings; but one may also fill in
the above appendix to the basic mantra with SATRUN "enemies,"
BHAYOPADRAVAN "terrors and injuries," YUDDHANI "battles,"
DUSKRTANI "evil deeds," KRTYA-KAKORDHAN "magic
and killing curses," and VISANI "poisons."
Again, one may use the appendix SARVA RAKSAM-KU-
RU ! "Protect from all 1" In this instance the terms become:
GRAHEBHYO "from evil spirits," VIGHNEBHYO "from hindering
demons," VYADIBHYO "from diseases," JVAREBHYO "from
fevers," ROGEBHYO "from sicknesses," UPADRAVEBHYO "from
injuries," AKALAMRTYUBHYO "from untimely deaths," DUH-
SVAPNEBHYO "from bad dreams," DURNIMITTEBHYO "from
evil omens," CITTAKULEBHYO "from confusions," and similarly
SATRUBHYO "from enemies," BHAYAPADRAVEBHYO "from
terrors and injuries," YUDDHEBHYO "from battles," DUSKRTE-
BHYO "from evil deeds," KRTYA-KAKHORDEBHYO "from
magic and killing curses," and VISEBHYO "from poisons." For
example, to protect from bad dreams: OM TARE TUTTARE TURE
SARVA-DUHSVAPNEBHYO RAKSAM-KURU SVAHA 1 "OM
TARE TUTTARE TURE Protect from all bad dreams SVAHA I"
A mantra for the pacifying of terrors in general is as follows:
OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SARVA-BHAYA-VIMOCANA
RAJA-CAURA-AGNI-VISA-UDAKA-BHAYANI PRASAMA-
YA SVAHA!
"OM TARE TUTTARE TURE Liberation from all terrors: extinguish,
extinguish the terrors of kings, thieves, fire, poison, and
water SVAHA I"
Or one may recite the basic mantra with an appendix such as:
OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SARVA-BANDHANA-TADANA
RAJA-TASKARA-AGNI-UDAKA-V ISA-$ASTRAN I PAR IMO-
CAKA SVAHA!
"OM TARE TUTTARE Liberating from all bondage, beatings
kings, thieves, fire, poison, water, and weapons SVAHA I"
