systems have been evaluated, such as monolithic steel and carbon pins, multicomponent
pins combining a steel body mounted on a carbon or boron nitride tip
running in a steel, carbon or boron nitride sleeve. In addition to the pin–sleeve
systems, a membrane system was evaluated which provides a complete separation of
the load transmission from the semi-solid material. Due to the low flow pressures
and the heat impact, the thin membranes of only 50 mm wall thickness failed due to
