computed values (4.37 10 10 m 3 and 0.21 mm, respectively). The most probable<br />

reason is the grain multiplication due to continuous cooling/shearing of the<br />

<strong>solid</strong>ifying particles over the channel. This effect was not considered in MeSES.<br />

The calculated local shear rate values (dv/dy) near CP2 at 2.3 s are shown in<br />

Figure 6.50. The shear rate can reach more than 630 s 1 . The grain nucleation<br />

model implemented in MeSES is based on cooling rate and demonstrated good<br />

results [44] in the absence of shear.
