Jätän kaikki terveheksi:
maat ja metsät marjoinensa,

Leaving home
Farewell to all of these:
Fields and berried forests,
Flowery lanes and heather heaths,
Island-dotted lakes
Deep whitefish waters
Fir-covered hills
And dales bedecked with birches
Farewell, lakes and shores,
Fields and firs upon the hill,
Tall pine trees,
The chokecherry behind the house,
The juniper on the well-path,
Stalks of berries, stands of hay,
Clumps of willows, roots of spruce,
Leaves of alder, bark of birch!

Adieu donc à vous tous, qui étiez ma richesse:
