Táto krajina
Karpaty, 1984
Táto krajina
pripomína babkinu truhlu:
Otvoríš a zrazu ti v srdci zavonia
materina dúška
suchý kvet lipy a majorán
Táto krajina
pripomína chrám:
Chorál o človeku
znie v nej bez prestania
Studničky na medziach
sú plné svätej vody
vysoko na horských lúkach
v gotických vežiach zelených katedrál
nežné spieže oviec zvonia
a vôňa rumančeka
ľahučká ako závoj svadobný
potichu klesá do údolia
Táto krajina
pripomína chrám
V pásiku modrých dymov nad dedinou
vonia živica
vrchársky tymián
Keď vchádzaš do tejto krajiny
a spoza nich ťa víta ľudský hlas:
Nekľakaj! Veď si jeden z nás! A nie si v kostole!
Chlieb a soľ ťa čaká na stole.
This country
Carpathian Mountains
This country
Reminds of grandmother’s hutch:
Just open it and you can smell in your heart
Wild thyme
Dried flower of lime and marjoram
This country
Reminds of a temple:
Chorale of a man
Sounds without stop
Springs on balks
Are full of holy water
High on uplands meadows
In gothic towers of green cathedrals
Sweet bells of sheep jangle
And a smell of camomile
Feathery as bridal veil
Quietly declines into the valley
This country
Reminds of a temple:
In a strap of blue smoke over a village
Resin smells
Upland’s thyme
Entering a country
You would like to genuflect before
And thunder with a heart on oaken doors
But in vain: doors are open
And behind doors a human voice greets you:
Do not kneel down! You are one of us!
And you are not in a church!
Bread and salt on a table is waiting for you.
