Pamošanās
Cik balts, cik balts vēl pērnais sniegs
uz manām apslāpētām ilgām!
Šķiet, krūtīs priede šalc
un skrapst, un taisās lūzt,
jo balts, jo balts vēl pērnais sniegs
uz dzīvām, aprimušām saknēm.
Jel lūsti! Apslāpētās ilgas kliedz,
un priede lūst.
Sniegs jūk, bet nesāp sadragātās krūtis.
Aiz meža saule mūk …
Cik ciets, cik ciets vēl pērnais sniegs!
Ai labā saule!
Reiz gribu pamosties ar rīta gaiļiem,
pa zaļu mauru basām kājām iet
un priežu jaunaudzē no sveķiem reibt,
uz krūtīm liet sev dziedinošu sauli.
Reiz gribu pamosties!
Vien plakstus pavērt bail.
Ja tavu acu ledus mani sies,
vai spēšu otru tādu ziemu izturēt?
Awaking
How white, how white last winter’s snow
still lies upon my silenced longings!
I feel as though a pine-tree signed and swayed
here in my breast, about to break,
all white, all white, last winter’s snow
still lies upon the dormant living roots.
Then let it break! My longings cry aloud,
the pine-tree falls. The snow is scattered,
and yet my shattered breast can feel no pain.
The sun hides hurriedly behind the woods…
How hard, how hard last winter’s snow!
Ah, kindly sun!
Some day I want to wake at cock-crow
and wander barefoot on green grass,
intoxicated with the scent of resinous young pines,
and bathe my breast in healing sunlight.
Some day I want to wake!
And yet I am afraid of opening my eyes
for if you were to bind me with your icy glance –
how could I bear another winter like the last?
L’Eveil
