The madman in the <strong>la</strong>ndscape<br />
looks for an egg in the mirror.<br />
Even the dead have left the neighbourhood.<br />
There’s no one left but me to say:<br />
“At Ceron… at that intersection…”<br />
That was the house of the century<br />
suffering alone<br />
and defying people,<br />
for the children of the vil<strong>la</strong>ge, the heart of p<strong>la</strong>y.<br />
A brother to travellers and lights,<br />
the god of the <strong>la</strong>ndscape.<br />
Now there’s not so much as a splinter<br />
or ashes left of it.<br />
Just its cradle<br />
casting a shadow over my eyes.<br />
