D’improvviso, sporgendosi un poco all’infuori, egli
obliato ritratto materno.
All of a sudden, leaning slightly outwards, on top of the
country road he saw the ridge of the mount as it appears
from far away: three light blue rocks, three pinnacles,
smiling with their gentle levity, as if imprinted in the sky.
Then his heart swelled with tenderness, as if his mother
country imprinted in the sky revealed itself as a painting
resembling the dear forgotten portrait of his mother. How
different is the shape of the mother country from below!
Maybe it was only a gentle synthesis idealised by the
distance and the sky. Had not the light blue air cleaned
the horizon so that the picture could appear entirely on
top of the road? The stones of the rocky road were
shining in the shadow of the black winter trunks, while
the mountains revealed swellings typical of spring, in
the wind pushing the clouds. Some flowered small trees
looked like a pale or rose corolla scattered among the
more harmonic lines of the hills.
collines.
