Illusion / Reality<br />
Yesterday, a billion years<br />
before prehistory<br />
before the Ice Age<br />
life was already creating an illusion<br />
of cinematographic art.<br />
And I could already p<strong>la</strong>y the guitar<br />
(a shell by the sea)<br />
and the string and the sound<br />
were the b<strong>la</strong>de I used<br />
to s<strong>la</strong>sh <strong>through</strong> the illusion<br />
and (maybe) find the truth<br />
at the far end of a dark cave,<br />
on my own, no bother.<br />

Hier, il y a un milliard d’années<br />
avant <strong>la</strong> préhistoire<br />
avant <strong>la</strong> période g<strong>la</strong>ciaire<br />
<strong>la</strong> vie déj<strong>à</strong> produisait l’illusion<br />
de <strong>la</strong> cinématographie.<br />
Et je savais déj<strong>à</strong> jouer de <strong>la</strong> guitare<br />
(c’était un coquil<strong>la</strong>ge au bord de <strong>la</strong> mer)<br />
et cette corde et ce son<br />
étaient <strong>la</strong> <strong>la</strong>me avec <strong>la</strong>quelle<br />
je <strong>la</strong>cérais l’écran-illusion<br />
et (peut-être) trouvais <strong>la</strong> vérité<br />
au fin fond des cavernes obscures,<br />
tout seul, sans me troubler.<br />

My ears buzz with the murmur of myriad things<br />
birds, fish, beasts.<br />
The hum of millions of creatures<br />
floating between life and death<br />
down the millennia…<br />
All quick with the same breath<br />
a brief instant<br />
then buried in the void.<br />
And I see myself looking into a b<strong>la</strong>ck abyss<br />
for life’s unwritten history and<br />
eternal symphony.<br />

<strong>à</strong> <strong>travers</strong> les millénaires…<br />
Tous animés du même souffle de vie<br />
pour un bref instant<br />
puis sont ensevelis dans le vide.<br />
Et je me vois regardant dans un abîme noir,<br />
pour y surprendre l’histoire non écrite de <strong>la</strong> vie,<br />
l’éternelle symphonie.<br />
