Variabilita suprasegmentálnych javov181Variability of IntonationSummaryGlobalization affects all aspects in the life of human community. The same is true oflanguage. Global trends in Slovak are mainly reflected on phonetic. Phonetic variabilityabove the level of word causes a fact, that many questions concerning suprasegmentalphonetics still haven’t been answered. Suprasegmental area is more variable than segmentaland it is more difficult to codify particular types of intonation than segmentalsound features. The attention focused on formation of different varieties of intonation isa presumption for proper hearing of the speaker’s message, because they are importantfor mutual understanding between the speaker and the listener. A recent question is malfunctionalusage of intonation especially in media. Intonation in newspapers should beadequately emphasized. In the contribution we point at the usage of intonational systemof the Slovak language spoken in radio and television. Intonation is closely related withthe factors of communicational situation, as well as with social and individual characteristicsof the speaker.
